My Guilty Pleasure - Sewing Pillows

I admit it, sewing home dec is my guilty pleasure.
I love to sew pillows. Big deal right. Everyone can sew a pillow.  Every decorating show on TV has the guy who can't sew, sewing pillows.
But mine are not like that.  Mine are not simple squares stuffed with fluff but cushions made with quality fabrics, dressmaker details, and filled with down.  I like to use each cushion to practice a technique and improve my skills.

This is probably my favourite cushion to date.  It is black velvet with an invisible zipper.  I really tried to get sharp corners.  The flower is made from a remnant of white dupioni silk.  I used 3 inch strips cut on the bias - a lot of them.  The strips were folded in half an put through the ruffler.

I used Vogue 8642, a purse pattern, for the flower.

I traced the layout on to the back of the velvet.

Then I stitched the tracing.

Then I sewed on the ruffle - around and around.  To make the centre, I attached the last bit of ruffle by hand and added three vintage pearl buttons.

I want to make the purse too but I think I  will reduce the tightness of the ruffle.  This used a great deal of fabric.

Thanks for dropping by.

Oh my that pillow is amazing! I can see the detail and time that went into that, also I would think once you've mastered the flower/ruffler you could put those flowers on lots of items.
